First-quarter is flying by fast.  Various property management platforms have been discussing budgets and the current state of affairs.  Budgeting is often at the forefront. How do to stay within budget while building a community? Resident events can be costly to execute correctly. Mardi Gras decorating season is in full force in the South.

Today, I want to share tips on how to host a Mardi Gras event on a budget. You’ll be surprised that you can still host a quality event on a tight budget. The key is making sure the presentation and thoughtfulness are well executed.

For those of you who do not know the history of Mardi Gras, According to Wikipedia,

Mardi Gras (/ˈmɑːrdi ˌɡrɑː/), or Fat Tuesday, refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday, which is known as Shrove Tuesday. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday,” reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lenten sacrifices and fasting of the Lenten season.

Usually, when people often associate hurricanes, color beads, king cakes, and flair with a fun Mardi Gras party. You can do simple to elaborate decorating.  Please feel free to release your inner creativity without any limitations when it comes to decorating. I love to decorate using this theme due to limitless creativity.

I will share three main points to consider how to decorate for Mardi Gras 2021.  Plus, you will receive tips on how to create YOUR community event for under $150. Let’s get into it!

Mardi Gras Decorating Tip # 1: Incorporate the colors

The easiest way to stay within a specific theme is using the colors.  Mardi Gras’s primary colors are purple (symbolizes justice), green (symbolizes faith), and gold (symbolizes power).   You can incorporate this color scheme through beads, banners, balloons, masks, or other store-bought merchandise.  You can find great options in the shopping list below for your event.

Mardi Gras Decorating Tip #2: Food or drink inspiration

Due to the current gathering limitations, I wanted to provide you with unique ways to have Mardi Gras’s inspired refreshments still.  Food trucks and mobile bar services have been a saving grace for multifamily communities wanting to even host events.  You can reach out to a themed food truck to serve out jambalaya or other festive food options.  Check out your local food truck community to find the best fit for your property.

If your community instead do sweets or lower price point treats, King cake, festive cupcakes, cookies, or other treats will work correctly.  Your property is likely surrounded by excellent bakeries that have theme treats available.  For an extra touch, the community staff can pass out beads, masks, or individual party supplies with the gift.

Some communities have done individual cocktails.  Most certified mobile bartenders can do packaged cocktails for easy distribution.  If you are looking for a store option, please check out Daily’s Hurricane Pouches.  They are an excellent way to use individual premade pouches.

Mardi Gras Decorating Tip #3: Community Partnerships

Community partnerships are perfect for properties that are currently facing obstacles with getting people together at their facilities. There are a lot of restaurants and bars that would love to host your residence. There are two ways that you can do this.

The first is having all of the residents meet at your community for their swag bag and entry ticket for the designated meeting location. It can be a fun way to have your residents interact and patron a local retail space.  Please consider even local bakeries or non-food focused partners.  Relationship building with local businesses can be a win-win.

The second way is a fun scavenger hunt. It is perfect for a community that has multiple relationships with restaurants and bar services. You can do a game or scoreboard for the places that people visit. Try to see about a discount for your residence that participate in the activity.

Conclusion

Resident events in a pandemic do not have to be boring.  You can use the above tips and adapt to your property needs.  If you are confused about implementing events, please set up a FREE consultation to discuss the current packages.
