For some communities, July is the start of fun outdoor activities or pool parties. However, we believe all events are not one-size-fits-all. Depending on the community’s demographics or interests, you can organize one theme differently.
We wrote this blog to help multifamily, student, and senior housing community coordinators. Depending on how often you have to organize events, coming up with new and fresh ideas can feel overwhelming. Boring events will ultimately impact participation.
1: Independence Day: Red, White, and BBQ
Multifamily Communities: Host a classic BBQ with a twist! Set up themed stations with red, white, and blue decor. Include activities like a pie-eating contest and patriotic crafts for kids. Encourage residents to bring their favorite side dish for a potluck-style feast.
Student Housing: Organize a rooftop or courtyard BBQ with music, games, and a spectacular view of the fireworks. Offer a photo booth with fun patriotic props for Instagram-worthy moments.
Senior Housing: Plan a relaxed afternoon BBQ with soft music, lawn games, and a comfortable seating area. Include a storytelling session where residents can share their favorite Fourth of July memories.
2: National Tequila Day: Margarita Madness
Multifamily Communities: Set up a Margarita station by the pool and offer a selection of flavored margaritas, including non-alcoholic versions. Pair the drinks with a taco bar and have a local mariachi band perform.
Student Housing: Host a DIY Margarita-making class where residents can learn to mix their own drinks. Follow it up with a salsa dance class to keep the party going.
Senior Housing: Organize a Margarita mocktail and taco tasting event. Include a presentation on the history of tequila and its cultural significance. Offer a serene, festive atmosphere with traditional music and decorations.
3: International Joke Day: Laughter is the Best Medicine
Multifamily Communities: Host a stand-up comedy night featuring local comedians. Set up an open mic session where residents can share their funniest jokes. Provide popcorn and refreshments for a true comedy club experience.
Student Housing: Organize a joke contest and invite residents to submit their funniest jokes. Hold a live event where the top entries are performed, and the audience votes for their favorites. Winners get fun prizes!
Senior Housing: Plan a light-hearted comedy movie marathon with classic comedies that everyone loves. Set up a comfortable viewing area with plenty of snacks and drinks. Encourage residents to share their favorite funny stories during intermissions.
